Plants in the office are a simple way to improve the atmosphere in the workplace. They purify the air, moisten it and have a positive effect on the well-being of employees. In the article, we discuss which plants are best for the office and how to choose those that will be easy to care for.
What plants for the office?
An office is a workplace, not a hothouse, and it's good that office plants should not be especially troublesome. They should not lose their leaves, require frequent watering and other treatments. They should also be safe for the environment. Needle-shooting cacti are unlikely to be recommended. What plants to choose for the office? Here are our suggestions.
Hole monstera is our first type. This plant originated in the tropics and is a climber, but one that sits quietly in a pot and does not spread all over the room. The fact that it is adapted to climb is evidenced by its hanging aerial roots. Monstera has large leaves with characteristic indentations.
Monstera is a plant suitable for the office, because it is not particularly picky when it comes to conditions. It does not like cold weather. It needs a temperature of 18 to 24 degrees. It likes moisture and it is good to sprinkle its leaves twice a week, and once in winter. As for watering, it should not be overwatered. In summer, one watering a week is enough for it, and in winter even once every two weeks. It likes partial shade and should not be placed near a radiator.
Another plant for the office that we suggest is zamiokulkas zamiolistas. It seems to be even less demanding than the monstera. It is most easily found in Tanzania and in Zanzibar, recently loved by Poles. It is sometimes called the iron flower, which reflects its character well. In summer it likes temperatures up to 30 degrees. In winter, 15 is enough for it. It has thick leaves that grow from underground rhizomes.
As a succulent, and therefore a relative of cacti, it does not like water. It is better to water it too rarely than too often. A suitable place for it is far from the window.
Guinea sansevieria used to be a very popular office plant. It is another iron flower. Just plant it in fertile soil and water it once every three to four weeks with a small amount of water and fertilizer. It grows slowly puts out more leaves from its roots every now and then. Unfortunately, when it has too little space it can burst the pot. It likes shady places.
Sansevieria has no visible stem. Long wide and thick sword-shaped leaves grow directly from the ground. Their edges are distinctly lighter, and the center of the leaf has irregular darker patterns. It looks very showy.
How about flowers?
We have so far suggested supplementing office decor with plants whose appeal is not due to their beautiful flowers. Now we will propose flowers for the office, that is, something colorful. The choice is much smaller. Like other plants, flowers in the office are also supposed to not require too much attention.
The first that comes to mind are orchids. They are native to Asia and grow on trees in natural conditions. They are considered undemanding, and they bloom long and nicely. They like light, but without overdoing it. They will do best by a window facing east or west. They are watered only when the ground becomes noticeably dry. They require a variable temperature: during the day 21 - 29 degrees and at night 16 - 21. These temperature fluctuations are necessary for them to bloom.
A very decorative flower for the office is the anthurium. In the right conditions it can bloom all year round. They are those huge flowers shaped like a heart with a big yellow stamen in the middle. Actually, the flower is that stamen and the colorful heart-shaped creation is a transformed leaf. The anthurium is native to Central America.
It likes lots of light, but it does best by a window facing east or west. It can be sprayed with water, but not the flowers. because stains will be left on them. Water sparingly, with distended soft water and necessarily warm water.
Increasingly, a modern office is considered to be one that has not only modern technology, but also that something that warms it, such as plants.
There are times when we can afford not to worry about plants in the office. This is when the building is in a green area and we have plants right outside the window.
